We continued our pumpkin inquiry today with pumpkin stations. The children were scientists observing and recording their results. They have been learning to use their 5 senses to explore pumpkins these last few weeks. Their engagement in this pumpkin inquiry process is wonderful to see. I hope you enjoy seeing your child's participation in these activities.
Today we played NUMBER GAMES together. There were 4 different stations to go to. It was a lot of fun.
We are learning to be scientists through the inquiry process. Today we put dirt in a pumpkin to see what would happen.
We are also learning to use magnifying glasses to make observations. Our Pumpkin's name is Tim. We are going to watch him ROT. TIM sure had a lot of pumpkin guts in him. We are not quite sure what will happen to him yet. We discovered that a pumpkin has lots and lots of seeds inside. We measured the height of the pumpkin using unifex cubes. It was fun to discover that a pumpkin floats and does not sink and that there are many different sizes of pumpkins.
The Kindergarten classes had a lot of fun at the Laity Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday! There were so many pumpkins in the pumpkin patch to choose from. We all had a great day!!! A big thank you to the parents who volunteered to come on our trip.
On Thursday, October 8, Ms. Williams' class made Turkey Apples for Halloween. The students used a variety of snack foods suck as marshmallows, raisins, craisins, gummies, grapes and other snacks to create turkeys out of apples. We had lots of fun making them (and eating a few snacks along the way!)
The Kindergarten classes will be visiting the Laity Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday, October 27. We will leave the school at 9:05am and return at 2:15pm.
** We need 2 more parent volunteers to go on the bus! ** The students will participate in a various activities, including a hay ride, a corn maze, panning for gold, and a petting farm. They will also visit Frontier Town, Fairy Tales Trail, Dinosaurs, Pumpkin Zoo, and Mushroom Forest. Students will be able to pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to take home. We will be going rain or shine, so students need to be dressed for our ever-changing weather. What to bring: - A labelled bagged lunch (we will be collecting them so please make sure they are labelled with your child's name) - A small pocket snack (granola bar, cut up bag of apples, etc that easily fits in their pocket). - Money - The field trip cost of $7.00 per student covers the entry fee to Laity Pumpkin patch. The cost of the bus rental is being covered by the Queensbury Parent Advisory Committee. (Thanks PAC!) Permission forms are going home today with your child. Please return the signed form with $7.00 by Friday, October 16. |
